Kickstarter Fundraising 100 TPC - A Message from the 100TPC Crew

Dear Friends of 100 Thousand Poets for Change,

I am writing to let you know that Terri and I have set up a 100 TPC KICKSTARTER PAGE in an effort to raise funds to help us to continue organizing 100 Thousand Poets for Change 2012, and more specifically to help us plan and set up our “100 TPC Headquarters Event”  from where we will manage all the September 29th global events!

As you know, we have no funding or sponsors thus far and so we have funded the past year’s work on our own. We have recently applied for our non-profit status and hope to be able to get funding from foundations and sponsors soon, but until our non-profit status is approved we are asking for support from our friends, and soon-to-be friends, too!

For those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter, the basic approach is that you state your fundraising goal for your project and then set the time in which you think you can achieve (or surpass) that goal. If at the end of your fundraising period you do not reach your goal you don’t receive any of the donations. So, if we do not reach our goal of $2500, all the money will be refunded to the donors accordingly.

Kickstarter explains it like this…

"Why is Kickstarter funding all-or-nothing? On Kickstarter, a project must reach its funding goal before time runs out or no money changes hands. Why? It protects everyone involved. This way, no one is expected to develop a project with an insufficient budget, which sucks. Remember you set your own funding goal, so aim to raise the minimum amount you'll need to create your vision. Projects can always raise more than their goal, and often do"

Terri and I have set our goal for $2,500 and we have 60 days to raise these funds. I am sure you will agree this is not much money for running the website, archiving for Stanford University, sending out ten thousand press releases, general outreach, and overall management of all the activity on the day of the event which will include monitoring and sharing livestreams, skype sessions and much more!

Please understand that we are actually very uncomfortable asking for funding, we know you all work really hard and poetry is not a high paying job. But, I think we all agree that 100 Thousand Poets for Change is worth doing on a long-term basis.

So far we have over 500 events in 100 countries confirmed for September 29, 2012. With your help we hope there will be 1000 events!

News and Update of the Utmost Importance: 100TPC

 

We - Michael Rothenberg & Terri Carrion - have GREAT news!!! University of California at Stanford, historically known as a world leader in research, and known for it's excellence in academics here in the United States has recognized 100 Thousand Poets for Change as a historical event and has decided to archive the complete weblog- www.100TPC.org as part of their LOCKSS program.

What is the LOCKSS Program?

“LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), based at Stanford University Libraries, is an international community initiative that provides libraries with digital preservation tools and support so that they can easily and inexpensively collect and preserve their own copies of authorized e-content. LOCKSS, in its twelfth year, provides libraries with the open-source software and support to preserve today’s web-published materials for tomorrow’s readers while building their own collections and acquiring a copy of the assets they pay for, instead of simply leasing them. LOCKSS provides fully managed preservation and 100% post cancellation access.”

In other words, the 100TPC site and all its content will be preserved forever, regardless of what happens “online”. That means your individual Event Location Blog Page and all its content will be preserved forever as well!!!

So…this is why it is important for you to use your Event Location Blog Page to your full capacity.  

You should make announcements regularly to reach all your participants and keep them updated and engaged. Also, remember that your page will very likely be viewed by other organizers and participants, in other cities and countries, helping to connect everyone involved in 100 TPC throughout the world.

 

In addition, anyone who looks at the 100 TPC weblog should be able to get a vision of what poets and artists and activists around the world are thinking and concerned about, and give insight into why each of us is participating in the100 Thousand Poets for Change initiative.

 

So, if you keep a journal, please post some of your journalentries on your page. Post poems by you or others. If you have created flyers, posters, or art that pertains to the event, have copies ofnewspaper articles, links to discussions on other internet sites and blogs, post it on your 100TPC Event Location Blog Page. The more the merrier! The Event Location Blog Page was created for you and you city!

 

Your Event Location Blog Page is an overall essential part of the 100Thousand Poets for Change global initiative. Posting and sharing on the Event Location Blog Pages helps create community, a global community. Andalthough the 100 TPC Facebook Event Page does a great job to create community and is easy to useas a hub for communication, it can't (and won’t) become an archive or a permanent documentof the entire process and outcome of this event. This is what the 100TPC.org site is for. Feel free to copy and paste chat threads or comments from Facebook to your Event Location Blog Page that you feel should be preserved.

 

On another note, if you choose to create your own blog or website for your particular event, that is great! But remember, only having a link to that blog or site from your 100 TPC Event Location Blog Page is not enough to keep it archived. Whatever server it is on most likely will not exist forever. You should make the effort to copy all the information at your own separate site or blog on the Event Location Blog Page at the 100TPC.org. site to ensure it is part of LOCKSS program.

 

After September 24th, all the Event Location Blog Pages together will become not only a huge document of the entire initiative, and all its parts, and your participation in this global initiative, but also animportant archive of contemporary world poetry.

 

And of course, it is obvious that much of the material to be posted will be created in the days and weeks following the actual events on September 24! There will be video of readings and performances, documentaries of events, poems written for the occasion, many photos and audio files of people, places and things! So, remember September 24^th is not the end of 100 TPC, in a way it is just the beginning.

Cet événement se développe régulièrement. Pour rester informé des dernières mises à jour, consultez les notes publiées sur le mur de notre page Facebook. Voici les deux questions les plus posées:
1) De quel type de changement parlons-nous ?
2) Je veux organiser une manifestation dans ma région. Comment faire?

1) « De quel type de changement s’agit-il ? »

Dans un premier temps, il s'agit d'un changement pour les poètes, écrivains, artistes, tous les créateurs ; pour qu'ils puissent se rassembler pour créer et mettre en scène, éduquer et manifester  simultanément avec d’autres communautés à travers le monde. Cela changera la façon dont nous voyons notre communauté locale et la communauté internationale. Nous sommes tous devenus incroyablement aliénés ces dernières années. Nous ne connaissons pas vraiment les voisins dans notre rue, sans parler de nos frères et sœurs de création qui vivent et partagent nos préoccupations dans d’autres pays. Or nous avons besoin de sentir ce genre de solidarité mondiale. Je pense que ce sera fortifiant.
Et bien sûr il y a le changement social et politique dont nous sommes nombreux à parler ces jours-ci. Il y a des problèmes dans le monde. Les guerres, le crime écologique, l’absence de soins médicaux accessibles à tous, le racisme, la liste est longue.
Il semble que la transformation vers un monde plus durable soit une préoccupation majeure et pourrait être un principe global pour guider cet évènement. La paix semble également être une cause commune. La guerre n’est pas un tenable. De plus en plus, nous sentons qu’il faut aller de l'avant et arrêter de reculer. Mais j’essaie de ne pas être dogmatique. J’espère qu’ensemble, nous pourrons développer nos idées du ” changement et de la transformation ” que nous recherchons en tant que groupe, et que chaque groupe ou communauté décidera d’apporter son  point de vue dans son domaine spécifique lors de son propre son événement.

2) « Je veux organiser dans ma région. Comment faire? »

100 MILLE POETES POUR LE CHANGEMENT dressera la liste des participants dans chaque région, chaque ville ou pays, et trouvera des personnes, dans chaque zone, qui souhaitent organiser leur évènement local.
Si vous êtes un organisateur pour votre communauté, cela signifie que, d’abord vous choisirez un emplacement pour l’évènement, puis commencerez à contacter les personnes dans votre région qui désirent participer à l’évènement. Participer signifie, contacter les médias, annoncer l’évènement sur le web, dans les agendas, les journaux, etc, faire la lecture de poèmes, mettre en scène, amener des gâteaux et de la bière (c’est à vous de choisir), manifester, en mettant en place une lieu d’information, en invitant des conférenciers , des musiciens, etc, en organisant des expositions d'œuvres d'art, et en médiatisant l’évènement (ce qui est important, aussi), et pensez à nettoyer après votre passage.
Les organisateurs et les participants créeront leur propre événement local comme l'expression de ce qu'ils représentent sur place. Que ce soit une veillée aux chandelles ou un cirque, une marche ou une danse, que ce soit un silence absolu, une méditation de groupe dans une rue commerçante ? C’est à chaque groupe local de décider. Toutefois, les groupes doivent organiser tout ou partie de la manifestation à l'extérieur, en public. Le plus important étant d’être vu et entendu et de ne pas rester derrière des murs. Il est également important que l’évènement soit médiatisé : photos, vidéos, poèmes, journaux, tableaux ! La médiatisation est cruciale. Tous les autres participants à l'évènement 100 MILLE POETES POUR LE CHANGEMENT voudront entendre ce que vous avez à en dire et profiter de votre créativité aussi ! La médiatisation sera partagée à travers un blog ou un site que je vais mettre en place, un endroit où les groupes pourront partager et donner des informations sur l'évènement qu'ils souhaitent organiser, ainsi que publier des photos, vidéos, poésie, œuvres d'art, et pensées. Mais l’évènement n’implique pas obligatoirement de réunir des milliers de gens. Vous (l’organisateur) pouvez le faire seul, avec votre animal de compagnie, sur un coin de la rue, avec une pancarte. Faites-moi savoir ce que vous prévoyez ! Chaque effort compte !
Chaque organisation locale déterminera le sujet sur lequel elle veut travailler, quelque chose d’important comme la paix, le développement durable, la justice, l’égalité, ou des causes plus spécifiques comme l’assistance médicale, la liberté de parole, ou des préoccupations environnementales locales ou sociales qui ont besoin d’une attention urgente dans votre région, etc. Les organisations fourniront ensuite une déclaration ou un manifeste qui expliquera qui ils sont, ce qu’ils pensent et de quoi ils se soucient. Lorsque l’évènement aura eu lieu toutes les déclarations  seront collectées à travers le monde et, je l’espère, rassemblées dans une grande déclaration des 100 MILLE POETES POUR LE CHANGEMENT.
