The ghazal is a time-honored literary form dating from 6th century Arabic verse. Successive versions of the form attest to its appeal across numerous cultures and periods of time. Focal themes associated with the form have encompassed divine and earthly love to those of loss, longing, and isolation. Ghazals are voiced and sung in many languages, including Persian, Turkish, and Urdu.

Despite highly specific rules governing the form in its early centuries, more contemporary versions have relaxed such practices. In contemporary English, the self-containment of each couplet offers an appealing potential for discovering subtle relationships among the (minimum of five) different couplets within a single piece. Subliminal echoes of perception and emergent contextual linkages provide a renewal of sensibility for readers of the ghazal.

The pieces in this collection represent a selection of works written as ‘American Ghazals,’ based upon the distinctly American idiom in which the pieces have been developed. The more I read the form in translation and in English, the more apparent the fit of pivotal shifts in language, thought, and content. The American ghazal offers rich practice, replete with political, social, psychological, and meditative states that redefine perceptions in a new century.

Entre deux petits boulots, David mène une véritable vie de bohème et passe le plus clair de son temps à écumer les bars et les sex-shops parisiens. Ne devient pas Henry Miller qui veut. De solitude en partouzes, de mariage en divorce, de main en main, l’homme passe et ne s’arrête rarement.

J’avais du boulot, putain ! Devenir écrivain, c’était ça mon boulot. Et je n’avais pas une minute à perdre.

     L’abbé Henri Boudet est curé de Rennes-les-Bains, petite station thermale très prisée en cette fin de dix-neuvième siècle. Il publie en 1886 un livre singulier  et obscur : « La Vraie Langue celtique et le Cromleck de Rennes-les-Bains » dans lequel il prétend restituer la langue originelle grâce à l’anglais moderne, très proche, selon lui, de la langue des Tectosages, tribu celte du sud-ouest de la Gaule. L’abbé se lance dans des démonstrations farfelues, pour ne pas dire ridicules, et additionne les élucubrations. Il devient la risée de la communauté scientifique locale qui s’esclaffe en citant des passages de son ouvrage. Pourtant, Henri Boudet est loin d’être idiot et on ne lui connaît pas non plus de signes de folie. Alors pourquoi ce suicide éditorial ? La raison est simple : le livre est codé. Il n’est pas destiné au profane mais à une élite d’initiés. Ce que contient ce livre est si grave, si important, que la raillerie de quelques scientifiques rationalistes ne peut pas affecter son auteur.

      Pour la première fois, La Vraie Langue celtique de l’abbé Boudet est entièrement décodée. Après quatre ans de travail acharné et méthodique, l’auteur de L’Île Sacrée met au jour un double secret — d’Etat et d’Eglise — jusqu’ici oublié des historiens. Il s’agit d’un Plan divin imaginé par les Spirituels franciscains du XIIIe siècle et réalisé sur terre au fil des siècles, étape par étape, par des souverains, des papes, des artistes tels que Nicolas Poussin, et des savants tels que Cassini. Le Plan restitué par l’analyse de la VLC (La Vraie Langue Celtique) révèle deux lieux dissimulés : une île de l’Atlantique et une colline sacrée du département de l’Aude.

     La Vraie Langue celtique de l’abbé Boudet est la clef d’une énigme historique des plus populaires de notre temps, la fameuse affaire de Rennes-le-Château.

A crazy project in which your poetry e-books will be freely available to all interested humans on Earth for a 24 hour period.

Throughout April we will collect e-books from poets and writers interested in participating.

Then on May 1st, for a 24 hour period, a special website will go live with links to all of the e-books. For 24 hours anyone will be free to download, for free, as many of these e-books as they like...a poetry e-book free-for-all.

..How?

To participate, read all of the guidelines below and then click on our Online Submission form. That's it. It's simple. By doing so, your e-book will be included.

The E-Book has to be written by you.

E-books should be in PDF Format for universal compatibility with anyone's computer.

If you have an e-book in Microsoft Word or another format, please convert it to PDF. One way to do this (if you don't know how) is to visit the website http://www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/. From there you will be allowed to select the file on your computer which will uploaded and e-mailed back to you in PDF format.

When creating your e-book file, please keep it smaller than 1 megabyte.

Once you've created your e-book (not before), click on our Online Submission Form to join in!

Do not fill out the form and then e-mail us your e-book later. Please fill out the form and use it to upload your e-book to us.

We are not accepting e-books or submissions by e-mail. The only way to join in is by clicking on the Online Submission Form below.

On May 1 at Midnight (the evening of April 30), we will distribute a special e-mail letting people know the location of the web page with links to all of the e-book files. People will be free to download any or all of the titles and your poetry will be freely, electronically, travelling all over the world. This web page will go off line 24 hours later at Midnight on May 2nd.

We will also list your e-book and description on this web page along with the link to your website for all to see.

When it's over, we'll produce a list of how many copies of each book were downloaded for no reason other than you may find it interesting.

Why are you doing this?
To expose as many people to as many other people's poetry as possible.

Why isn't this a one-one exchange like the Great Poetry Exchange?
The immediate accessibility of the internet, and zero costs for producing e-books makes this a much more attractive opportunity for an immediate larger audience for your books. We don't want to limit your potential readers to other producers of e-books, nor to one other person.

Why does the e-book have to be written by me?
Unlike the Great Poetry Exchange, were one can participate by pledging to send a book by someone else or an anthology they've edited, since e-books are not purchased physical entities, and because they will be available in unlimited quantities during the 24 hour period on May 1st, only you have the rights to your poetry. You can't authorize the free distribution of someone else's poetry, the rights of which you don't own, to the world.

This sounds cool but I don't have an e-book.
That's not really a question, but anyway, why not make one? Do some basic design and layout of your poems in your favorite word processing program. Make a title page. Design a nice cover. Use any pictures you want. Turn it into an PDF. You've got an e-book. There's no time like the present. Maybe you'll take it to print later?

I participated last year and I want to submit the same book, can you just use the file and info you have already?
This creates more work for us and is a little more difficult for us to manage. It would really help out if you could click on the Online Submission Form so we can have everything in the same place, we'd appreciate it.

I'm concerned about my book being free for everyone on the planet.
Also not a question but we understand. Maybe this isn't for you. Maybe you sell e-books on your website and don't want to give unlimited copies of one away over a 24 hour period. Hey, it's cool.
